A skill development program (SDP) is a structured initiative, often government-sponsored, designed to equip individuals with vocational and technical skills (like AI, software, or trades) to improve employability, address industry needs, and foster economic growth, with major Indian programs like the Skill India Mission (PMKVY) offering short-term training, certification, and pathways to entrepreneurship for youth and marginalized groups. These programs bridge skill gaps by providing practical, industry-aligned training, making participants job-ready and supporting national goals like Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

Goal: To identify skill gaps and provide relevant training for better livelihoods, self-employment, and economic progress.
Target Audience: Primarily youth (15–45 years), but also women, minorities, PwDs, and rural populations.
Types of Training: Short-term courses, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and specialized projects.
Focus Areas: New-age skills (AI, Data Analysis, Software Engineering) and traditional trades (Electrician, Fashion Design, etc.).
